Durch Echokardiographie und/oder Angiographie kann zwischen einem offenen Ductus arteriosus und koronaren arteriovenösen Fisteln unterschieden werden, die ein ähnliches Erscheinungsbild haben können.
Die Krichenko-Klassifikation des offenen Ductus arteriosus, die auf der Angiographie beruht, umfasst 6 Typen:

TYP B: FENSTER
TYP E: LÄNGLICH
TYP C: ROHRFÖRMIG
TYP F: FETAL
Der offene Ductus arteriosus kann von einer kleinen, hämodynamisch unbedeutenden Läsion, die bei der Auskultation nicht zu hören ist, bis hin zu einer Läsion reichen, die ohne Intervention groß genug ist, um kongestives Herzversagen und pulmonale Hypertonie zu verursachen.4,8

Der Arzt überwacht das Herz des Babys, um festzustellen, ob sich das offene Blutgefäß richtig schließt.
MEDIKAMENTÖSE THERAPIE
Frühgeborene können ein intravenöses Medikament (Indomethacin, Acetaminophen oder Ibuprofen) erhalten, das den Verschluss der PDA unterstützen kann.
